RE: The monster we refuse to look at.

Most people I think will agree we need to invest in our own country and get out of Iraq. Most military personel say we are doing a lot of good over there. Ok, but we need an exit strategy and let them deal with their problems. We need to fix our own problems. A good place to start is electing senators and congressmen that avert our resources to green energy and put our oil dependency into rehab.

Unfortunately, the longer we stay there.... the longer any exit strategy will take to implement. If folks think that whoever they "vote" in the the next presidency is gonna have a quick fix, they are sorely mistaken. I think McCain's guess of being out of there by 2012 is probably not realistic either... sad, but true!!!

RE: The monster we refuse to look at.

I remember Jimmy Carter was going to fix everything up for us.our military was stripped down and we were going to be friends with everyone on the planet. The other powers saw this as weakness and built up their forces.(The Russians for example) We gave the Panama canal to the nation of Panama. I think China has the greatest control there now. The Iranians grabbed the US embassy and the Russians moved into Afghanistan.I remember waiting all day for gas for my truck. We are very vulnerable as we depend on oil. If we are shut off everything here goes down rapidly. Including our computers. I think we are in the Mid East for larger reasons than just Iraq. Nations such as Japan.France and England also want us to keep the oil supply lines open. They only have the power of nuclear weapons so we have a capable military there. If we quit nuclear energy and oil then what green energy is going to keep us going?I do think we should cut NASA out and put the funds into research for a new energy source. But we depend on the US education system. We train more clowns lawyers and politicians ,But mostly we put the money into ball players.

RE: The monster we refuse to look at.

Here are the lyrics to the song 'Monster' by Steppenwolf, written almost 40 years ago (1970)...the more things change, the more they stay the same.....

Once the religious, the hunted and weary
Chasing the promise of freedom and hope
Came to this country to build a new vision
Far from the reaches of kingdom and pope
Like good Christians, some would burn the witches
Later some got slaves to gather riches

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild
And she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light

And once the ties with the crown had been broken
Westward in saddle and wagon it went
And 'til the railroad linked ocean to ocean
Many the lives which had come to an end
While we bullied, stole and bought our a homeland
We began the slaughter of the red man

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild
And she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light

The blue and grey they stomped it
They kicked it just like a dog
And when the war over
They stuffed it just like a hog

And though the past has it's share of injustice
Kind was the spirit in many a way
But it's protectors and friends have been sleeping
Now it's a monster and will not obey

(Suicide)
The spirit was freedom and justice
And it's keepers seem generous and kind
It's leaders were supposed to serve the country
But now they won't pay it no mind
'Cause the people grew fat and got lazy
And now their vote is a meaningless joke
They babble about law and order
But it's all just an echo of what they've been told
Yeah, there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watchin'

Our cities have turned into jungles
And corruption is stranglin' the land
The police force is watching the people
And the people just can't understand
We don't know how to mind our own business
'Cause the whole worlds got to be just like us
Now we are fighting a war over there
No matter who's the winner
We can't pay the cost
'Cause there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watching

(America)
America where are you now?
Don't you care about your sons and daughters?
Don't you know we need you now
We can't fight alone against the monster

The nation has improved a great deal since the seatbelt law was enacted.
