Teen's mother forces her to have abortion

The Kansas Coalition for Life is raising questions about an abortion at George Tiller's abortion facility in Wichita.

The girl involved in the incident was brought to the clinic by her mother to have an abortion. Kansas Coalition for Life (KCFL) spokeswoman Mary La Francis says the girl was only 16 years old. "This is one thing we are observing now is underage girls, which constitutes statutory rape," La Francis contends.

The youngster's boyfriend, who wanted the child, arrived at the clinic, visibly upset. "These two young people were in love, wanted to get married," La Francis adds. "His family was very much in support of this and had offered to adopt the baby, [to] help them in any way that they could."

But the girl's mother threatened to disown her daughter if she did not go through with the abortion. According to La Francis, the boy went inside the clinic hoping to stop the abortion, with KCFL offering assistance, but it was too late.

"After talking with him for a few minutes, Jennifer McCoy [pro-life counselor] urged him to immediately go back in and explain that, if she did not want to go through with this abortion, that all she would have to do would be to say so and Kansas Coalition for Life could intervene, call the police, and come to her aid," La Francis explains. "But unfortunately it was too late."

La Francis, knowing the teenagers will be impacted for life, believes the situation is all the more reason for states to pass laws making it illegal to coerce a person into an abortion.

It should be illegal to force someone to have an abortion!! Like that woman in Houston recently who gave her 16 year old pills so that she would miscarry. It's just sick.

I don't understand how people make decisions in their (and their children's) lives. If the father's parents were ready and willing to adopt the baby and accept the responsibility, then why, WHY would you think making your child have an abortion would be a better option? And, exactly what life lesson does she think she taught her daughter through this traumatic experience???

If abortion wasn't legal, this wouldn't have happened.

If these children would have kept it in their pants this wouldn't have happened either. The pregnancy was the result of them breaking the law. I'm not saying this justifies the abortion, I'm just saying if these "children" weren't having sex in the first place, none of this would have happened. I wonder how the girl felt about the abortion. The story says she was "brought" to the clinic, that her mother said she'd disown her otherwise, and that the boyfriend and his family wanted the child. But it never comes out and says that the girl was "forced" to have the abortion. I just wonder why the story is so free about telling the opinions and feelings of everyone except the girl the story is about.

This didn't happen because abortion is legal. Nobody should be forced to have an abortion, period. But to say that this happened BECAUSE it is legal is ridiculous. If the parent was about to force their daughter to have an abortion, then they probably would've forced it whether it was legal or not. Please remember that abortions did still happen even when they were illegal.
