What about tattoos? I'm not talking about sleeves or up the side of their neck, but still something that will be seen. (and no nothing vulgar) i.e. nudity, death etc.....

I have 5 tattoos, and plan on getting many more. And while I do think that in todays society, they are much less of a "taboo" type of thing than they were 10, 20, 30 years ago (much like guys with ear rings), in ANY professional environment, they should be covered. I work in the oil business, and I will keep all of mine where they can be covered with a short sleeve shirt. I dont think it has anything to do with the fact that it is a teacher, in my opinion either. If you walk into a bank, do you want to see your teller with a big flame on his fore arm? What about your doctor, lawyer, local police officers, ect? I dont think tattoos alone say anything negative about a persons character, but in a professional environment, they are inappropriate when on display.

RE: Personal lives of teachers

Thank you for your opinion Caymon. Though I'm not a teacher, I do have contact with HS age kids, and there isn't a policy in the employee handbook about tattoos.
I recently got a tattoo on the inside of my left wrist and am trying to decide if I should wear a sweatband. This is my first tat, but probably won't be my last, and I am just trying to decide how I should handle it.
