RE: Casa Ole or El Toro

For me it just depends what i'm in the mood to eat. The Queso and Flautas de pollo are my favorite at Casa Ole, the red hot sauce and nachos (even though it is only ten) at El Toro, for breakfast it has to be Mendozas, for fajita tacos its Ricardos, and for enchiladas its Taqueria Tapatia. Mendozas, Ricardos, and Tapatia have the best mexican food in town, but of course I always have a favorite dish.

Actually, they do die the green sauce. Before the green die, it is a puke/doodoo brown. But, if you think the green sauce at El Toro is any different, you are mistaken. The tomatillo sauce (the watery one that most people dont eat that is only offered at the Bayway location I believe) is a different story, but the regular green sauce is also an un-natural color.

Ugh. Thanks for that! I always call it the toxic waste sauce. I think it probably glows in the dark.

Casa Ole tastes like TV dinners to me. Their queso is pretty good but you can get the recipe off the internet. Their secret is cream of celery soup.

It's funny you mention that. I have heard that several times. I have even heard people who think everything actually IS microwaved frozen food. But, sadly (I say sadly because it could be a lot better), everything you eat there, with the exception of the tortillas, tamales, sour cream, shredded cheese, butter, and desserts (aside from the fried ice cream) is actually made in house, from scratch. Well, the chips are not made from scratch, but, they are fried in house daily. Everything is made just like you would make it in your own house, only on a much larger scale. All enchiladas are rolled by hand, all chimichangas are stuffed and rolled by hand, the chile relleno's are stuffed, battered, and flash fried by hand, the enchilada gravy and ranchero sauce is made in house. I'm honestly not sure about the chili, but I think it is made in house also. The beans are bought as a 50lb sack of dried beans, and cooked in large batches. same with the rice. As sad as it is, based on the taste alone, the slogan of "fresh today, every day" really is true.

Hmmm...I wonder what the deal is then?

It's just not good to me at all. It's very bland and nothing special.

I judge a place big time on their salsa. Usually, if I don't like the salsa I won't eat there. I like a fresh salsa...usually one that has not been cooked. Kind of like a blended pico. I like it really spicy with lots of cilantro. If you have ever eaten at Chuy's in Houston THAT is the PERFECT salsa. I don't like salsa that is served warm either.

I know, I'm picky. But I like what I like.
